Drawn in by the sweet, enveloping aroma of steaming rice, one steps into the kura (brewery) to find not a mere production facility, but a sacred stage where invisible lifeforms breathe. Shiwa is the historic birthplace of the “Nanbu Toji”—one of Japan’s three great master brewer guilds—and a premier rice-producing region in Iwate.
